In May of 2016 the FDA announced upcoming changes to the Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods. To be reflected in the new label requirements is “new scientific information, including the link between diet and chronic diseases such as obesity and heart disease.” (source: FDA.gov) No doubt, the new label information will help consumers to be more informed in their food buying decisions. The final FDA rules were published in the Federal Register on May 27, 2016.
The new FDA Nutrition Facts label requirements affects all packagers of food who must meet the compliance date of July 26, 2018. That said, manufacturers with less than $10 million in yearly food sales will have until July 26, 2019.
