New FDA Nutrition Facts Label - Oppx for Competitive Advantage?
With the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) giving the Nutrition Facts label its first overhaul in over 20 years, and with CPC brands needing to comply by July 26, 2018, brands have a chance to embrace the new design early and gain a competitive advantage. The new design, announced on May 20, 2016, has been controversial with many CPC brands opposing the change which requires the display of more realistic serving sizes, disclosure of added sugars and other items that could influence customer decision making. That said, many view this as a win for consumers who are seeking greater levels of detail around what they are buying and eating...and therein lies the opportunity to stand out.
