Portco Helps Solve Oregon Trash Cleanup Again!

Without a doubt we, as humans, generate a heck of a lot of trash. And it's one thing to see trash now and then on the side of the road, but when it comes to being "farther out in nature," well, we prefer a much cleaner, trash-free experience. Thus, initiatives like Solve Oregon's Spring Beach Cleanup is something that Portco, as a whole, gets behind. In fact, just like last year, Portco has gone way above and beyond, this time removing a record amount of trash from one of the designated Solve Oregon beach cleanup sites. How much? Try 5 tons of broken asphalt and a slew of other, un-wanted debris including styrofoam, paper, rusted metal and plastic! Keeping this nasty stuff out of our waterways and ocean not only beautifies, but helps to prevent contamination.Just like last year, Portco picked and worked at Benson Beach, which is part of Cape Disappointment State Park. Sitting just north, over the bridge at Astoria, Cape Disappointment is a gorgeous place (prettier now with the trash gone) and one that is full of history. Two lighthouses, a jetty, a large campground and hiking trails make this area quite spectacular for visitors. Portco's effort here matches it motto of "Respecting our community by being the change."

No question cleaning up our beautiful beaches is a great cause. Yet one of the biggest reasons that Portco has chosen, year after year, to get involved with Solve Oregon is because they do a lot of work with cleaning up the unique waterways in the Columbia River Basin and along the NW Coast.
